Getting typecast is a reality in Bollywood, but for actor Amit Sadh, the initial struggle in the film industry was way different. He reveals that people didn’t know what kind of role to cast him in, to begin with.

“I work hard with whatever I get,” he begins to tell, “My fans and the people around me have started to see ‘yeh line mein sabse peechhe khada hai, lekin mehnat toh kar raha hai’. In terms of whether I didn’t get good offers or was I consciously not taking them up till some time back... I don’t want to put it like that. For me, it’s very instinctive. You don’t want to do silly things. After Kai Po Che! (2013), everybody said, ‘Amit, producers don’t know what to cast you in’!”

The film was a hit, both critically and commercially, hence, the actor not getting his due comes as a surprise. Sadh says he, too, got stressed because of it, but after a lot of thinking, he came to a realisation. “As an artiste, there shouldn’t be any perception about you... I’ll keep doing different roles, and prove to producers, directors and fans that I have the ability to become other people. I want my acting career to be based on that,” says the 36-year-old, who has since been part of films such as Sultan (2016), Gold (2018), and Super 30 (2019).

While the journey since has been smooth for him, Sadh feels he still has a long way to go. “It took me a while, but different roles did come in. Then people realised I can be a crazy cop in Breathe (web series), and a cute guy as well. I can understand that people don’t have time to imagine [me in different kinds of projects]. It took them five-six years [to get there]. Honestly, I’ve still not hit my comfort with casting people and makers. But it has just been 10 years, maybe in the next decade they will be able to imagine me in different roles,” ends the actor.
