As several public establishments have been shut down to curb the spread of coronavirus pandemic, local gyms have found an alternative to help people keep up their fitness routine. Making social media a platform for their members and everyone who is willing to work out, gyms have started posting exercise routines online as well as offering live sessions for working out at home.

After the shutdown, Cult Fit has been providing live workout sessions on their fitness app, cure.fit, which offers free access to everyone.

Ankit Nagori, co-founder, cure.fit, says, “Currently, we are offering live classes across fitness formats like strength, cardio, HRX, and yoga, all seven days of the week. These live classes are safe for all types of users, whether beginner, intermediate, or advanced. The user needs little or no equipment for the exercises. The live classes can be accessed on mobile devices as well as on desktops.”

Apart from Cult Fit, many gyms in Delhi are reaching out to their members for workout sessions through social media.

Gym says, “The trainers and experts here have developed a series of workouts that people can do at home. It consists of a 14-day workout series which can easily be done at home.”

She adds, “The workout videos are streamed through an internal communication channel — a WhatsApp broadcast group — so that all our members have easy access to their workout routines. We are also uploading these videos on our YouTube channel on a regular basis, as well as our social media pages. This is done to ensure easy access even for nonmembers.”

Regular calls have been initiated by some to check up on the members and to give them home workouts.

“Our trainers are keeping a record of the members by regular calls, so that members can do basic workout at home. Also, we will do social media stories talking about how to boost your immunity, what kind of workouts you can follow at home, and the kind of foods one should intake,” says Chirag Mehta, marketing head, Anytime Fitness.

Apart from gyms, personal fitness trainers have also been posting videos of their workout on their social media channels.

Tanvi Milan Parikh, a fitness trainer who frequently posts videos of her workout on Instagram, says, “Given the current situation, I try to post at least once every day. I use Instagram stories to announce a new post and often talk to my audience. I list out the detailed reps and sets in the video as well as in the caption along with helpful pointers on how to execute those exercises and not lose out on the form.”

She adds, “All my workout videos can be found easily on Instagram. They are completely free, and can be watched countless times.”
