Don’t forget to feed the strays, urge celebs

-

The Covid-19 outbreak is taking a toll on our daily lives as the country goes into complete lockdown till April 14. And in these trying times, MP Maneka Gandhi has appealed to people to continue feeding strays so that they do not end up dying of hunger.

In a statement, Gandhi informed that street dogs, cats and cows cannot transfer coronavirus to humans, and during a lockdown, if they are not fed, they will die.

Soon after this statement, Bollywood celebrities started sharing this message on their social media. Actor Sonam K Ahuja wrote, “To whomsoever it concerns please read this. If I could go and feed the stray animals I would. Also my heartfelt request to please allow dog food to be available: the trucks that carry them haven’t been allowed to come through the state borders. It’s my heartfelt request (sic).”

Actor Esha Gupta also lent support to this appeal by sharing the statement on her Instagram story.

Earlier, actor Harleen Sethi made a similar appeal via social media. She made a request to everyone to make two extra chapatis daily at home in order to feed stray animals as they will have no means of feeding themselves.

“Most of the stray animals survive on the leftover food provided by hotels and dhaba staff. These animals will starve to death in case of a prolonged lockdown. You can handover these breads to your society/ apartment staff, who will keep it outside the premises for the animals,” she says.

Actor Soni Razdan also tweeted, “Absolutely. Let’s all start a chain to feed street dogs. Their food source has dried up and we are going to have to be the ones feeding them. Each one feed one! Or two or three.” Actor Karishma Tanna also shared Gandhi’s statement on social media.
