Being locked at home during a global pandemic is an unnatural situation. It affects people in several ways and especially their mental health. People are usually cautious or ashamed to talk about it, but mental health crisis is a real problem,” says actor-singer Shruti Haasan.

She adds, “I have been in therapy for three years now. I seriously recommend therapy for people, who need it. I have tools that help me.”

Having been in lockdown for over two months now, Haasan, who is living all alone with her cat for company in Mumbai, has been working out daily, cooking, practising the piano, and taking care of her cat. “The toughest thing is not having physical contact with people.

But I have been quite busy with shooting for magazine covers, making music, and writing. This time has been productive,” she says.

While her peers have been chatting with friends or media outlets, Haasan did an Instagram chat with seven “inspiring” women, who shared their views on anxiety, body image issues, mental health and sisterhood. “I have enjoyed the live chats, but nothing replaces having the person in front of you,” says Haasan, 34.

Talking about getting to a normal life post lockdown, Haasan points out that it might not be easy. “The new normal will definitely take some readjusting. Physical activity is great for mental health. So working out, dancing, or yoga always helps,” she concludes.
