UK fears a second wave of virus: Banita

- Sangeeta Yadav

Staying in the UK, actor Banita Sandhu didn’t lose touch with what’s happening in the entertainment industry back home, and was quick to help daily wage earners as soon as she learnt about their struggles. “We must protect our daily wage earners. Once all this is over, their place in the industry needs to be reassessed as integral workers, so that they aren’t left in vulnerable situations like this ever again,” says Sandhu, who doesn’t wish to disclose her contributions.

Given the current situation, Sandhu, 22, finds it unsurprising for filmmakers to release movies on OTT platforms. She adds, “Covid19 is hastening the direction the industry was already heading towards. Given the uncertainty and lack of options, one has to look at what best can be done.”

The actor, who made her Bollywood debut with Shoojit Sircar’s October (2018), has not left her house for two and a half months now. She has been doing a few self tapes for projects both from India and the UK, as “no one really knows when we’ll be able to resume production.”

Asserting that the situation in the UK is improving, Sandhu affirms that people are still being cautious. “There is a fear of a second wave of Covid-19. Statistically, numbers are falling and the government believes we have passed the first peak,” she explains, adding that online language and music classes kept her busy during the lockdown.

“I am also past the point of feeling bad for watching an entire season in one sitting now,” she quips..
