‘I TURN DOWN FILMS WITH HUMILITY, NOT ARROGANCE’

In a career spanning almost two decades, actor Amit Sadh has never been hesitant in turning down a project he didn’t like, even if it meant rubbing someone the wrong way. Indeed, he doesn’t believe in going around or announcing such decisions either.

“When I say no, there is never news about it in media. I don’t go or message someone ‘I just said no’. When I turn down, I’m not saying no to that person or my capability of doing it, but my lack of understanding. If my boxes aren’t being ticked, I say no with humility, not out of arrogance,” he explains. However, Sadh, 37, is quick to add, “When I say haath jod ke ki samajh nahi aaya, after that, there is this arrogance about me. Post that, if there is anything, phir aa jaao!” So being the one who doesn’t mince words and believes in straight talk, hasn’t it been difficult to not just navigate but succeed in an industry, known more for its diplomatic ways? “I don’t believe in navigation, you do that when you get stuck. And you become dependent on it, and it might show the wrong route, I want to create my own path. There are people who will understand me and give work.. Then there’ll be people who don’t understand me, nothing against you. You’ve to learn the art of contentment, and giving up doesn’t mean you are a loser,” says the actor.

And no wonder, Sadh has nothing but gratitude for his fans, who he credits for all his success. “The journey has been like a nice highway with potholes, good, bad, up and downs. I have no regrets or complaints. If there is anyone I want to thank, it is my fans, and people who have loved me selflessly,” he concludes.

The year 2020 has been anything but ordinary in more ways than one. And actor Nushrratt Bharuccha feels that it’s hard to imagine that so much has happened in just one year, which ‘has just cut us and made us bleed’ in so many different ways.

“I just feel like I’m going to wake up tomorrow morning to another bad news...,” she says, adding that an influx of not-sopositive news on social media is also making things difficult. “It’s just become a state of mind and social media is a reflection of that. So they’re basically telling what all is happening out there but the fact that this is actually happening is toxic in itself. I don’t think if we don’t know about it, we’ll be able to out run it,” she shares.

Asserting that it’s best to endure and adapt to the situation, Bharuccha, 30, says, “The word that I’ve discovered in a new way is ‘cope’. We already had mental health issues and with this it kind of erupted even more. And it’s difficult to suddenly just become happy. I don’t think by being happy you’ll be okay with all that’s happening.”

Moreover, she feels, there’s an added stress and struggle on a person, when asked to stay happy, amid this crisis. “Tomorrow if he isn’t happy, he’d feel something is wrong with him,” she opines.

Bharuccha believes the right approach would be to accept it and be normal about it. “It’s ok if you aren’t happy, let’s just get through this situation right now, at the end we all will be happy,” she signs off.

Opening up on her views about the insider vs outsider debate, actor Anushka Ranjan, believes many are misunderstanding the meaning of nepotism.

“Nepotism would be if you’re given a position and everyone will have to accept you even if they don’t want to,” she says, adding that it’s different in case of actors. “If the audience pays to watch an actor then only the producer puts money on him/her. If you want to see outsiders to flourish, you need to watch their films. That’s how you support them not by raging war on social media,” she adds.

Daughter of producer, Shashi Ranjan and Anu Ranjan, she terms her journey in the industry as not an easy one. “Or else I would’ve got to play the lead in Fitrat (web show) or not have done small role in Batti Gul Meter Chalu (2018),” notes the actor.

Ranjan, 29, feels it’s the hard work and audiences’ support that matters. “Not denying anyone’s struggle, it must be more difficult for outsiders. But please don’t disregard the struggles an insider faces. Not everyone talks about it. Remember, these insiders did well because they are good at their job and you supported them,” she says.

There’s no director attached to the project yet.

The original movie featured actors Tom Selleck, Steve Guttenberg and Ted Danson as carefree bachelors living in New York City (USA), who are suddenly entrusted with taking care of a baby.
