Embrace the belted blazer
Cinching the suit with a statement belt never looked better! While Autumn Winter 20 runways and look books are all about sharp and form-flattering tailoring, the ubiquitous belted blazer made quite a visual impact seen on the runways. We got a panel of stylists to suggest some easy hacks to ace this trend with an everyday, pareddown approach. Stylist Lakshmi Lehr suggests investing in an oversized blazer dress and fastening your logo belt in an unfussy, relaxed way. “Then add some western (or otherwise rugged) leather boots and a baseball cap to radiate an insouciant vibe. Alternatively, opt for a sharp-shouldered black jacket nipped at the waist with a modern O-ring belt. Complete the ensemble with a high-neck top and ankle-length trousers,” suggests Lakshmi.
Stylist Sheefa Gilani says, “If you’re petite then choose an oversized blazer with a statement belt to accentuate your curves - minus the pants. Ditch your office-safe, smart jacket and pick one in a jazzy colour or an earthy tone. Other ways to commit to this trend is to pair it with a midi-length skirt and mules or embrace your old pieces of denim with a deep blazer neckline and a thin jewelled belt.”
Stylist Priyanka Castelino observes that blazers with a cinched waist are a great way to highlight curves. “For women who want to keep it simple, wear it with minimal stud earrings and high heels. One can also rock it with chunky sneakers for a casual vibe. I suggest accessorising with leather gloves, chokers, thigh-high heeled boots and big sunnies,” shares Priyanka.
