Want to get back into shape? Let superfoods do the magic in your diet
Fitness seems to be back in spotlight with Unlock 4.0 fast approaching. Wellness and yoga centres have reopened, with precautions. Many people have resumed their exercise regimen to get back into the size that they were before lockdown! While regular workout is important to stay fit, a balanced diet also plays a crucial role.
Experts suggest a few superfoods that can help you achieve your weight loss goals.
Nutritionist Tripti Tandon says, “Almonds have the ability to cut down cravings, and also help in weight loss. Make a healthy meal of yogurt by adding oatmeal, nuts, granola or fruits. You can even add berries, which are rich in antioxidants. You can also make a chaat out of kala channa or rajma, as it also helps boost immunity... Onions, tomatoes and garlic are also superfoods.”
Tandon cautions that no matter how healthy, anything in excess is bad. Insisting on portion control, she suggests wrapping up dinner early. “If you feel hungry later, have a fruit, nuts, any herbal tea or milk with cocoa,” she adds.
According to dietician Ritika Samaddar, a key factor for weight gain during lockdown quarantine was binge eating and excessive snacking. “During lockdown, people got up late, skipped breakfast and opted for a heavy brunch, etc. It’s now important to keep a check on snacking. Opt for healthier options like walnuts, sprouts or fruits. Carry a smoothie as you need a good amount of probiotic. Also, to stay hydrated, carry detox water, chaas or fresh lime. Carry home-cooked food, to avoid unhealthy calories,” she says, adding, “Have breakfast within two hours of waking up — a combination of carbohydrates and proteins — after starting your day with lukewarm water with honey or opt for ginger water or lemon water.”
While recommending seasonal produce, Preeti Rao, a health and wellness expert, says, “A baby eats only when it’s hungry, and only as much as it needs, with no indulgence. As we grow up, we land up eating just for taste or to manage our emotions. In other words, watch your food, taste your food, smell your food and observe how the food makes you feel in your body. This can happen only if we eat in peace and not while looking at the TV or phone!”
