TAKING CARE OF RESIDENTS AS WELL AS THOSE IN NEED
The
Covid-19 crisis has deprived many of essentials. But one Good Samaritan, Vikram Gahlot, chairman of Saraswati Narmada Ganga Yamuna Apartment in Vasant Kunj, and president of the Residents’ Welfare Association (RWA) of Narmada Block, took the onus of helping those in need on himself. On the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti on April 8,
Gahlot set up ‘Ram Rasoi’ at the community centre in his society. He says, “For 40 days, we distributed meals to 3,500 people, including daily wagers, security, housekeeping, without compromising on the quality of ingredients. There were 20 guards and cooks to help. We took full hygiene precautions such as gloves, masks and kitchen caps, and adhered to social distancing norms. Lodging arrangements were also made for them to stay in the society. We had a tempo to take the meals to a certain place for distribution.”
Since domestic helps weren’t permitted in the society during the lockdown, Gahlot made sure senior citizens, too, receive

timely meals. “I received a huge token of money from residents wanting to contribute towards this cause,” he adds.
A mask donation drive was also held in the society, wherein 150 masks were handed over to senior citizens. “I’d like to thank advocate Dhananjai Jain, general secretary, RWA, Yamuna Block and Mona Sharma, president, Saraswati Block, for the social initiatives undertaken during the period,” he ends.
