Nothing like a good ol’ barbecue in this biting cold, right? Well, Gurugrammers are indeed making the most of it! Roadside vendors of barbecue (aka sigri) sets in the Millennium City say they have been making good sales.

Ashok, a vendor who sets up his makeshift shop near Phase 4, Sector 28 in Gurugram, says sales have shot up with the drop in temperature. “Yeh bahut bik rahe hain aaj kal. Yeh set ₹3,000 ka bada wala, aur ₹1,600 ka chhota wala size bik raha hai. Ek baar koyla bhar do, toh teen ghante tak garam rehta hai.”

Ruing the financial crunch that almost all sellers in the vicinity had to face amid the pandemic, Amit, another roadside vendor, says, “Ek din mein teen chaar set bik jaate hain. Prices of the sets I have begin from ₹700 and go up to ₹1,000. Haan pehle jaisa rate nahin aa raha ab, but we sell the seekh rods for ₹60 and coal for ₹100 per two kilos. Abhi demand achchi hai to thode paise kama lenge.”

“Thand itni bad gayi hai aur is mausam mein sabka man karta hai sigri mein paka hua khana khaaye,” says, Rohit, another vendor selling sigri sets, adding, “Log jo humse khareed ke le jate hain woh aajkal ghar pe party kar rahe hain. Issi time toh hume bikri ki umeed hoti hai, and achchi sale ho bhi rahi hai, to hum khush hain.”

For barbecue lovers, it’s a win-win in this weather. Yatin Wadhwa, a Gurugram-based businessman who recently bought a set of BBQ and skewers, says, “It’s easy to use and available just minutes away from my house. Plus, I didn’t want to spend much buying it online. I made grilled chicken on it, and it turned out to be a hit among my family members. What more can I ask for in this winter!”
