AThere’s going to be a lot of cricket in 2021. I look forward to playing some cricket on home soil real soon.

KL RAHUL, Cricketer

fter 2020 turned out to be a dampener for most sectors, a lot of hopes are being pinned on 2021 to revive things for the better. Sports industry, too, had been impacted massively, and the cricket fever finally seems to be catching on again.

Indian batsman, KL Rahul, says the pandemic impacted his training session, match schedules and overall life the way it affected everyone else. “Early days of lockdown, I couldn’t get out much and didn’t have clear access to all the fitness equipment I’m generally used to. But I used the time productively and made the most of the situation. I focused on strength training and ensuring whenever cricket resumes that I would be ready,” he tells us.

And the one thing that he’s expecting from 2021 is to get back to his game with full force. “There’s going to be lots of cricket for sure — after such a long break, the second half of 2020 had us back in full swing. I’m looking forward to playing some cricket on home soil real soon. But overall, I’m just hoping for a better, safer, and healthier 2021 for myself, all those close to me and everyone at large,” says Rahul, 21.

The recent test victory of the Indian cricket team against Australia at Gabba is a big high for a nation, obsessed with the sport. Rahul has been a part of the circuit for years now. Does the pressure of being in the limelight 24 x 7 get to him sometimes? He admits, “Pressure exists in all walks of life. The pressure to perform is what can drive you to bring out your best, work that much harder to make sure you get things right come game day. It’s about approaching it with a positive mindset.”

Asked what’s the main focus in his cricketing career right now, all he says is: “What it’s always been. To be the best I can be, and do my best for my team. That has never changed.”
