#WRAPCHALLENGE: INNOVATIVE WRAPS RULE SOCIAL MEDIA

Wraps are an amazing way of combining nutrition with taste. No surprises, then, that the #wrapchallenge has caught everyone’s fancy, especially food bloggers and enthusiasts.

The challenge, which originated on Instagram, involves creating innovative wraps using a specific cut and fold method, with different bases and fillings. People are using basic tortillas, homemade rotisserie and even dosas and omelettes to innovate, taking this challenge to a whole new level.

“This is a fun way to experiment with a dish and come up with new variations. Wraps are easy to make at home. Ideally, one should use tortilla, which is easily available in departmental stores. One can also use homemade rotis as the base. Wraps are also a great way to use leftover sabzis and create a different meal option. You also need some basic toppings and sandwich spreads,” says chef Durba Ray.

Chef Nishant Choubey recommends mixing sauces such as Sriracha or Chimichurri, with mayonnaise, for a burst of flavour. He also suggests making wraps with whole wheat bread, for a healthy twist. “Always knead with warm water when using whole grain to make the wraps. If the filling is exotic, serve it open so that it’s visible. And use cheese that melts, such as mozzarella, cheddar etc.,” he adds.

Some chefs are of the sentiment that a good wrap is one that’s a blanket of comfort, packed with robust flavours. “A good wrap should be like a pick-and-go thali — wholesome and nutritious! The secret lies in getting the perfect balance in each bite — soft wraps filled with juicy, tender morsels of meat, a refreshing salad for that crunch and a gorgeously creamy yet subtle sauce does the trick,” says chef Radhika Khandelwal.

And there’s certainly no dearth of options, when it comes to ingredients! For vegetarians, Ray suggests using fillings such as grilled paneer, sautéed onions and bell peppers, boiled corn or even leftover dry sabzi. “For non-vegetarians, options include grilled chicken, cooked mutton mince, and boiled chicken with mayo... I’ve been following the hashtag on both Facebook and Instagram, and came across many recipes that I would like to try. For my contribution to the challenge, I made a Chicken Croissant Wrap using croissant sheet as the base. I used grilled chicken, vegetable and cheese as toppings to create the wrap. I had a fun time conceptualising and executing the dish, and the outcome was great!” she shares.
