No such thing as too many prints
A reflection of our times, prints allow you to express who you are
There’s a new fashion print every season, ruling the runway and our closets. Prints lend a touch of creativity and freshness to all outfits and are a showcase of our times.
Think about the ’50s and you can visualise beautiful maxi skirts and exaggerated dresses with maximal graphic prints. The prints trend picked up towards the end of the ’60s, becoming wardrobe staples. They gradually became a part of work wear dresses with special fabrics, pleats, puffy petticoats, all in the brightest and boldest of patterns and colours. The Hippie movement also gained momentum between the ’60s and ’70s, claiming peace and love for the whole world, and nothing represented this idea as much as flowers, which were everywhere!
The ’70s and ’80s also saw the arrival of a new music genre that greatly influenced fashion with androgynous glam rock and disco glamour. From bold and daring colour blocking, to tie and dye and striking animal prints, these visuals were a game-changer, championing the idea of self expression through clothing.
In the recent years, graphic prints, tartans and ginghams have been increasingly chosen as part of everyday wardrobe. Today, prints are a staple for most designers and have come a long way from wooden blocks to digital prints and currently 3D printing. They suit most personalities. Be it a shy, timid person or someone who exudes flamboyance, there is a print for everyone.
