#CampusCalling: College students turn Covid warriors
Driven to save lives, students from various colleges in Delhi have been working hard amid the second wave of the pandemic. From verifying and sharing leads for hospital beds or oxygen cylinders to donating to the patients, many college-goers have joined Delhi’s fight against Covid-19.
“I joined Miranda House’s Covid help desk that has been working to help others 24x7. Despite being Covid positive myself, I’ve been contributing to this initiative since I feel I must do so when people need me the most,” says Vidyanshi Singh, a first-year student of Miranda House, Delhi University. She adds, “Whenever we get any leads of beds, plasma or oxygen, we first verify the resources and then share. We have helped a lot of people in not just Delhi but cities across India like Lucknow, Kanpur, and Hyderabad.”
Besides all the tangible help, some are also trying to bring positivity by counselling those struggling with anxiety and other mental health issues. “When the new wave of pandemic struck, I started getting food delivered to Covid affected families. And in case they need someone to talk to, I ensure that I’m always available,” says Anchal Singh, a student of Miranda House.
“Losing my professor to Covid, since she couldn’t find a bed in any of the Delhi hospitals, propelled me to help others,” says Sugandhika Ghalyan, a second-year student of Lakshmibai College. She informs that college students pan India have made groups on social media to help Covid patients.
Sanjay Kataria, a Master’s student at Department of Library and Information Science, recently distributed food, masks, and ration to daily wage labourers around the campus. He says, “A lot of them don’t even have the money to get tested for Covid. I went along with a fellow hosteller and distributed masks and basic medicines to them.”
