AGE NO BAR FOR DELHI-NCR’S ECO WARRIORS
These denizens are driven to save the planet, improve lives
Whether in their teens, late 20s, or early 40s, these environment-conscious denizens are unstoppable. Their aim is to leave behind a better planet for the future generations. Their struggle to care for Earth is a 365-day concern, and even the pandemic has not deterred them.
ONE DREAM, ONE MILLION TREES
“I have asthma, and saw many around me develop breathing troubles owing to the appalling air quality in the Capital,” says 18-year-old Aditya Dubey, a Noida resident, who has so far planted 15,000 trees, under his campaign Plant A Million Trees. He has also distributed 1.8 lakh seed orbs — seeds wrapped in fertilisers and clay — to NGOs and children’s hospitals for planting, under the campaign Each One Plant One.
BATTING FOR EDUCATION AND ENVIRONMENT
For Gurugrammer Nilay Agarwal, 28, watching kids at slums made him initiate the Clean N Green (CNG) project in 2020. His NGO Vishalakshi Foundation converted a dumpyard into a free school for kids, run by volunteers. “By converting these areas into greener spaces for education, we ensure they are treated with much more love,” says Agarwal.
A NATIVE NURSERY
Amid the Covid-19 crisis, environmentalist Vimlendu Jha’s NGO Swechha has been trying to raise awareness about native species of trees and vermicomposting while working on their Farm School. Jha, 41, says, “We’re launching a native nursery at the school, this World Environment
Day! The school is a hands-on academy on sustainability, and engages people to find long-term solutions for ecological degradation.”
