e has worked in 250-odd films over the past four decades, and even today, Jackie Shroff remains one of the busiest actors. With no plans to slow down anytime soon, the actor says he is enjoying the new phase, wherein he gets to dabble with different formats, including big screen projects and content for the web.

“A lot of good projects are being made and a lot of opportunities are now available for people who didn’t get them in cinemas. But, emotions haven’t changed. A lot of platforms have come. Jazba nahin badla, platforms badalte rahe. Cinema halls, television, theatre, street plays, digital… yeh sab aate rahenge,” he shares.

The 64-year-old, who has worked in several films and small screen projects, marked his web debut with season one of Criminal Justice and went on to do The Interview: Night of 26/11.

“Many more platforms will come,” he continues, “Even hologram will come soon. It’s all about holding on to the moment, maintaining my health and being at it. I’ll keep working on any platform that comes.”

Another noteworthy aspect of his long-term career is the way he has reinvented himself, rather than sticking to doing one thing.

“I’ve done 250-odd films, and I’ve been lucky to be cast in all kinds of films possible. I am not choosy, that I will only do this or sing songs as a hero. I have been very flexible and disciplined. I’ve been around for a long time and I’m lucky I keep getting work,” he explains.

The landscape of cinema, Shroff agrees, may have changed. But, what hasn’t is the way he chooses his projects. “There are still some films that I do for friends, for certain directors, production houses, and some I do for scripts. If someone comes with a script and says that it will make a lot of difference to my career, I will definitely do it. If someone comes with a big banner film and assures that it is going to be great, I will take it up,” he reasons.

Elaborating further on his decision-making process, Shroff adds, “I usually try and understand that I’m one of the legs, and when I say legs, I mean legs of a chair. Who sits on a chair is not important. But, out of the four legs, if one leg is not good, the person on the chair will fall.”
