Gandhiji ke sang: Delhiites engage in charity
Students and residents of Delhi-NCR will provide meals and donate to NGOs on Gandhi Jayanti
On Gandhi Jayanti today, youngsters in Delhi-NCR are all set to take forward the principles of service and humanity advocated by the Father of the Nation. While some would distribute ration and sanitisers to the underprivileged, others are holding a bake sale to raise funds to help those who are less fortunate. Pankaj Gupta, a resident of Delhi, whose grandfather fought during the independence struggle shares, “On Gandhi Jayanti, me and my cousins, along with a few friends have organised a small charity event. We will be distributing ration and sanitisers to the underprivileged. Those, who are still unvaccinated, will be driven to the vaccine centres to get vaccinated against Covid-19.”
Students across varsities are connecting on social networking sites to donate to NGOs, who have been at the forefront, providing meals and healthcare facilities to the needy. “We created a group on Instagram, where we have asked everyone we know to join the cause. All of us have pooled our pocket money and have collectively donated it to the NGOs, who have been working to provide food and lodging facilities to those who were adversely impacted by the pandemic. Since, we can’t venture out as a group, we have requested the NGOs to do so on our behalf,” says Hitesh Sherawat, a student of Delhi University.
A few youngsters are holding a bake sale to raise money. Aatifa Ahanger, who is a baker and a home chef has decided to raise funds through bake sales on Gandhi Jayanti. “A few other home chefs like me will be raising funds to help the migrant labourers whose jobs have been badly impacted by the pandemic.”
