THERE’S A FEAR OF GOING OUT OF SIGHT, SAYS MAHIMA
Actor Mahima Makwana opens up about the uncertainties and struggles of finding work in the film industry
It’s been almost six months since actor Mahima Makwana’s Antim: The Final Truth (2021) released after multiple delays due to the pandemic, but she is yet to sign her next. And, she admits that this phase of uncertainty that she is facing in the industry is fuelling her fear of going out of sight.
“I don’t know why people don’t talk about the uncertainty of the [film] industry enough. It is part of our everyday life. Right now, people are asking me, ‘what have you been up to since Antim?’. And I have been approached for certain things and also auditioning,” she says, adding, “But there is a lot of uncertainty, and there’s also the fear every actor and creative person faces — of going out of sight and going out of [audience’s] mind.”
The 22-year-old calls working in the industry, a tough job, and shares she has immense respect for people who manage to make a living out of this successfully. “But at the end of the day, you want to do it because you are passionate. And you dreamt of seeing yourself on the big screen,” says the actor.
She also goes on to laud actor Shruti Seth for her viral post on duality of art where Seth addressed the uncertainty of the nature of their work. Makwana asserts, “She (Seth) told the truth, because I don’t know if I will have a job tomorrow.
If I have a job today, I don’t know if I would still have it the next morning. It is all about giving your best to the opportunity that you have at hand.”
Being in the industry, she adds, has changed her as a person. “I would have been a different person, if I were not a part of the industry. It has made me alert, ambitious, passionate, as well as hard working. The one thing that has been a constant, is to not forget my roots,” wraps up the actor.
