From old masters to next-gen creative minds, works of almost every prominent name in the art sphere can be witnessed at India Art Fair, which kick-starts in the Capital today. This year, 85 exhibitors including 71 galleries and 14 institutions are participating. After a prominent presence of digital art last year, a lot more is in store this time. Take, for instance, the Digital Artist in Residence programme. “It is organised for the first time, in a dedicated space called the studio, to make photography, mixed media and other forms of digital art a part of the conversation,” says Jaya Asokan, fair director, India Art Fair.
When at the venue, one can expect an immersive experience as rich artistic traditions of India are showcased alongside contemporary and digital works. “Our aim is to make art more accessible and approachable,” shares Asokan, adding, “The fair is an inclusive platform where differently abled persons can also join in. We also have performing arts and workshops.” Performance-based art will also enjoy the spotlight this time. Among these, Sahil Vij aka Mai3ya, will present a Hybrid Sound Journey using handpans and electronic instruments. All set for his debut act, Vij shares, “It’s a totally organic musical set, carefully crafted for this fair.”
