‘Arrivals are for airplanes and trains, no place for them in a creative world’

-

With his OTT film (2022) receiving a favourable response from both critics and the audience, Amit Sial seems to be in a “relaxed” state of mind. Does the actor, who first got noticed for his work in LSD (2010), feel he has finally arrived? “Terms like arrival and departure are meant for airplanes and trains. And they follow a set timetable. This is a creative world and there is no timetable here,” he quips.

Sial, who has earned rave reviews for his work in Maharani and Jamtara, says that before OTT propelled his career in the right direction, work was hard to come by. “It was difficult get into films with the kind of work you want to do because everything revolved around people sitting at the top. OTT has given new avenues to actors like me, along with new directors and new technicians,” explains the 47-year-old.

Has he ever thought of bagging projects as the lead or is he content with supporting roles? “No, you cannot be content with what you do, otherwise growth stops. I am not greedy but I won’t let go of good character roles. The reason supporting roles are called that is because you are supporting the lead, and they are equally important,” he says.

The Mirzapur actor, who wants to “live the fuller life of the (lead) character” now, is exploring romance and comedy in his upcoming projects. “You get stuck in people’s heads in a certain kind of characterisation. Hota hi hai. Nobody should be blamed for that. Actors are themselves responsible to break out from their image,” he wraps up.
