Even as she awaits stronger film roles, actor Rashami Desai lauds TV’s ‘religious commitment’ towards the audience

RI want to choose I want a subject that to do as an actor. ke liye Kabhi kabhi kisi liye waqt woh hone ke lagta hai. RASHAMI DESAI,

ashami Desai feels TV, even if it gets taxing at times, is ultimately a more powerful medium than films. “It is a religious commitment towards your audience. And it is not an easy job to maintain that, not only for actors but also for the makers — to deliver and make sure the audiences like it,” the actor says.

The 36-year-old has been part of popular shows such as Uttaran and Naagin 4 and 6, not to mention reality shows of the likes of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5, Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi and Bigg Boss. She adds, “Saal mein 50 pictures banti hain, saari ki saari nahin chalti. It is also a very different kind of struggle. However, I feel TV can never go old.”

Desai feels disappointed when people complain about TV. “I feel humiliated when I get generalised as a TV actor. I strongly believe that we have more power and visibility than film actors,” she asserts, adding that the ridicule levelled at series regulars is uncalled for. “Regular hi chalta hai, at the end of the day,” says Desai.

The actor, who debuted in the Assamese-language film Kanyadaan (2002) and often appears in Bhojpuri films, wants to create “milestones” whenever she picks a full-fledged role. “I’ve given my 100% to whatever project I do. I want to choose a subject that I really want to do as an actor. Kabhi kabhi kisi ke liye woh hone ke liye waqt lagta hai,” she notes.

Desai, seen in 2021 in the web series Tandoor, would like to expand her OTT footprint now. “I’m looking for a great project — the kind I’ve never done before. Something more challenging,” she ends.
