With summer around the corner, a proper skincare routine has become essential for the skin. As temperature will start soaring soon, experts dole out some tips in advance which will help you prepare your skin for the upcoming hot weather.

The key to having good skin during summers lies in drinking plenty of fluids, which will help keep it supple. Dr Rajendran SC, a dermatologist, says, “As temperatures are set to rise soon, the need to protect your skin has become important. Sun rays contain ultraviolet A and B rays, which cause premature ageing, sunburn, tanning and even skin cancer. Make sure you drink plenty of fluids and eat a healthy diet to prevent dehydration.” He adds, “Another important tip to keep your skin from losing moisture is to reduce your shower time. Use only lukewarm water to prevent your skin from drying.”

Dr Rajendran also advises against stepping outdoors unnecessarily to escape the harmful sun rays.“Protective clothing in lighter materials such as hats, long sleeves, pants and sunglasses are a must-have during such time,” he says.

Makeup artist Nehaa Raj shares a few tips on the kind of makeup products that can be used in

such weather. “It is important to tweak our routine according to the weather. Use refreshing facial mists to help maintain the pH balance of your skin.”

Raj further emphasises the use of homemade remedies that can prove beneficial for your skin. “Classic home remedies like turmeric-gram flour mixture and aloe verainfused ice cubes are a great way to rejuvenate your skin, especially for the acne-prone.”

Another makeup artist, Sara Simran, throws light on the importance of using sunscreens. “Use sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 50 and opt for hydrating moisturisers. Having some fresh fruit juice every day helps with hydration, too,” she concludes.
