What makes celeb pet pages on Insta so paw-pular?
Pets form an invaluable part of our lives. They infuse cheer on the darkest of days and end up becoming family. But, in the case of our celebs, not only have their furry pals brought joy, they are now stars in their own right! Pets of Indian celebs today enjoy a loyal fan following on Instagram via their respective pages. From actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ dogs — Diana (153k followers), Gino (260k followers) and Panda (59.9k followers) — to actor Kartik Aaryan’s pooch, Katori (121k followers) and actor Disha Patani’s pets Bella, Goku, Chichi, Jasmine and Keety (21.6k followers), their popularity seems to be growing by the day. This Love Your Pet Day, we explore what makes these pages a hit.
Actor Raveena Tandon has a page called‘ liv in it up with lucifer’ that has 1,600 followers. She tells us, “I think it’s great for celebs to click pics with their pets and create such fun pages. This spreads awareness about how animals should be treated. I also post about the work I do for strays. There were rescue missions where we picked up puppies who had almost died and we nursed them back to health. The page is used to request people to help strays as well.”
In 2016, actor John Abraham adopted a stray dog and named her Bailey. He created an Instagram page for her and her pup, Sia, which currently has 16.3k followers. Actor Sophie Choudry also runs a page for her Shih Tzu, Tia, which has close to 2,000 followers.
Choudry says, “A pet is a member of your family and an extension of yourself. That’s probably why these pages are so popular. When people see you with your pet, they see a very real side of you. There’s no pretence. All videos of me and Tia are either of us playing or going for walks. I am no getting ready or putting on makeup!”
