A HISTORIC SAGA: WINNING EVERYTHING, BEING EVERYWHERE
Everything Everywhere All At Once breaking records was the highlight at the Screen Actors Guild Awards 2023
They came, they saw, they conquered. The cast of the absurdist dramedy Everything Everywhere All At Once (EEATO) outshone everyone else at the 29th annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards, held on Sunday night in Los Angeles.
The film’s cast, including Michelle Yeoh, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ke Huy Quan, and team won big at the 2023 SAGs, including the marquee Ensemble in a Motion Picture title. Yeoh snagged the Female Actor in a Leading Role honour as the film took home the ceremony’s top prize for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture.
Quan bagged the award for Best Supporting actor, making him the first Asian male to win a film acting award at the annual guild ceremony since its inception in 1994. He’s also the second Asian actor to win any individual SAG prize in either film or television. “I was told that if I would win tonight, I would become the very first Asian actor to win in this category. When I heard this, I quickly realised that this moment no longer belongs to just me, [but] everyone who has asked for change,” Quan said during his speech.
Curtis won Best Female Supporting Actor over the hot favourite, Angela Bassett (for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever). With these four wins, EEATO broke the SAG record for most wins by a single film at the show.

Whale’s Brendan Fraser nabbed the prize for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role — putting the Best Actor Oscar race into serious toss-up. Actor Colin Farrell has been an early front runner for The Banshees of Inisherin, while Elvis’ Austin Butler’s win at the BAFTAs and the Golden Globes has already added to the competition.
