Dino Morea says he sat at home for five years with no work: It affects you

In our industry, ‘out of sight, out of mind’ is real. You wonder if you should do a mediocre film just to be seen.

Actor Dino Morea is set to make his Tollywood debut with Agent, where he will be sharing screen space with actors Mammootty and Akhil Akkineni. However, prior to this project, Morea recalls being offered several “rubbish” roles. “I sat at home for five years. Maine kuch bhi nahin kiya, sabko na bol diya. ”

The 47-year-old continues, “In our industry, ‘out of sight, out of mind’ is all too real. Toh ek darr paida ho jaata hai. You start feeling guilty and wonder if you should do a mediocre film just to be seen.”

However, Morea refused to get bogged down and claims to have worked on his skills instead. “Yes, it bothers and affects you; ki yeh nahin karunga toh aage kya hoga? After all, yeh hi kamai hai, you’ve got to run your house. But, I did not get depressed, as I had faith in myself.” He adds, “I was confident of the way I look; I knew I was focused, hungry [for good roles], and I knew I could push myself. And I’m hardworking too.”

Morea, who made his Bollywood debut with the hit film Raaz (2002), believes there is nothing stopping the industry from making terrific cinema. Citing examples of recent successes such as RRR and Kantara (both 2022), the actor says it all boils down to a good script. “You cannot fool the audience today. If you serve them rubbish, they won’t take it. You must give them good movies,” he says, adding, “Our audiences go beyond [cities]. It is not south [film industries] versus Bollywood. For me, it is only movies. And, I am really looking forward to doing something big here. I want to do something that shows me off well. Why should I settle [for less]?”
