‘WORKING ON MY CRAFT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN PUTTING UP POSTS ON INSTAGRAM’
Shriya Pilgaonkar admits social media is a big part of an actor’s life today, but says she is not one of those who obsess over it
Social media is an inseparable part of an actor’s life today. Connecting with their fans, promoting their work, sharing their sartorial sense and snippets from their personal lives — it all happens there. But, doesn’t it lead to the focus wavering?
Actor Shriya Pilgaonkar, who received good reviews for her recent performance in the web show Taaza Khabar, says she only does “as much as I can handle”.
The actor says, “I also look at a lot of these things (tracking social media presence) as a part of my job. One has to constantly reinvent with time. I feel social media is a big part of our lives today. As an actor, I have to look at things from an overall perspective.”
However, the Guilty Minds actor is quick to add, “I am still a believer in working on my craft and skills. That is more important than how many posts I am putting on Instagram!”
The 33-year-old feels social media, however, acts as a medium to show the world different sides to you as an actor — through reels and pictures. This is also why actors get different shoots done, primarily for their social media pages.
“Sometimes, you have to spoon-feed the audience or makers with what you are capable of [doing]. Not everyone can visualise you in different ways or looks. I use social media like that (to show different sides of her personality) and don’t stress about it,” says Pilgaonkar.
She adds, “I don’t have a social media team. I don’t obsess over my next post, like some people whose careers depend on social media completely. But, to each their own.”
