Goldie Hawn feels the Oscars have become ‘too politicised’

ASometimes, jokes are offcolour. And I’m missing reverence. GOLDIE HAWN, Actor

cademy Award-winning actor Goldie Hawn is of the view that the Oscars have now “become politicised”.

“It used to be elegant,” Hawn said in an interview with Variety about the Oscars, which will be held on March 12 in Los Angeles, US (to be broadcast early morning on March 13 in India). “I’m not old-fashioned, but sometimes, jokes are off-colour. And I’m missing reverence. Things have become politicised. I want to see people in awe. I want to see people believing again. I want to see people laughing more in a way that isn’t just at someone else’s expense,” the 77-year-old added.

Meanwhile, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said this year’s awards will be about “honouring the crafts and what it takes to make a movie”. “Most people see just the actors in front of the camera, but as you know, there are hundreds of people that make movies and a lot of people across the country don’t know what it takes. We are going to show that,” the team mentioned.

In terms of what audiences can expect from the musical aspect, director Rickey Minor, who last served as the show’s music director in 2020, said: “As a team, we talk about not only the presentation of the music but the diverse music that’s in all of these beautiful films and the great writers.”

Aside from celebrating Hollywood film music and its composers, Minor reiterated that the ceremony would delve into the 95th anniversary of the awards: “It’s a treasure trove. We have a lot of material to choose from.”

On the ‘slapgate’ involving actor Will Smith and comedian Chris Rock, who hosted the Oscars last year, executive producer Molly McNearney said: “We are going to acknowledge it and then, we’re gonna move on. We don’t want to make this year about last year. It’s certainly something we can and will address in a comedic fashion.”
