Heatwave alert this week; rain likely for Udaipur, Jodhpur
JAIPUR: After a brief respite from the scorching heat, the state is likely to witness another spell of heatwave from Thursday, according to the Meteorological (MeT) Department.
“With maximum temperatures reaching 44-45 degrees Celsius in certain areas of western Rajasthan on May 15-16, there is a strong possibility of another heat wave beginning in the state from May 16,” the department said.
“In some parts of Udaipur and Jodhpur divisions, there will be thunderstorms and rain in the afternoon from May 13 to May 15, while in the remaining parts, the weather will be mainly dry, with temperatures expected to increase by 2-3 degrees Celsius,” it added.
Parts of Rajasthan experienced light to moderate rain in the last 24 hours due to the influence of a western disturbance, said the MeT department. The highest rainfall, measuring 42 mm, was recorded in Devgarh, Rajsamand. This precipitation brought some relief from the scorching temperatures in the state.
Thunderstorm activities are likely to continue till May 14. Due to changing weather, the maximum temperature in most parts has dropped below 42 degrees Celsius.
Since Saturday afternoon, dust storms and cloud cover have been prevalent in various regions in the state, including Bikaner. A strong dust storm swept through the state capital around midnight last night.
In most parts of the state, the minimum temperature has been recorded between 21-30 degrees, which is close to normal or less.
In the last 24 hours, maximum temperatures ranging from 38-43 degrees Celsius have been recorded in most places. The maximum temperature in Phalodi was recorded at 43.2 degrees Celsius.
