Ex­pe­ri­ence a splash of tra­di­tions, colours and mu­sic at the Tarnetar fair this month. Held near the town of Thangadh in the Sun­der­na­gar dis­trict, the fair is a cel­e­bra­tion of lo­cal folk tra­di­tions. Based on the leg­end of Drau­padi’s swayam­vara, the fair has tra­di­tion­ally served as a cen­tre for court­ing prospec­tive brides and grooms and still con­tin­ues to be so. Dur­ing the fair, the en­tire vil­lage of Tarnetar is cel­e­brat­ing and the stalls here sell a va­ri­ety of items such as beau­ti­ful lo­cal hand­i­crafts, eth­nic jew­ellery, stat­ues of deities and tra­di­tional at- tire with mir­ror work em­broi­dered.
