Experience a splash of traditions, colours and music at the Tarnetar fair this month. Held near the town of Thangadh in the Sundernaga­r district, the fair is a celebratio­n of local folk traditions. Based on the legend of Draupadi’s swayamvara, the fair has traditiona­lly served as a centre for courting prospectiv­e brides and grooms and still continues to be so. During the fair, the entire village of Tarnetar is celebratin­g and the stalls here sell a variety of items such as beautiful local handicraft­s, ethnic jewellery, statues of deities and traditiona­l at- tire with mirror work embroidere­d.
