ANTONY’S GOOGLY
On Defence Minister A. K. Antony’s first ever visit to Australia, Australian defence minister Stephen Smith reminded him of the shared heritage between the two countries— democracy, a vibrant media, and, of course, cricket. The usually reticent Antony displayed a rare wit. He reminded Smith of India’s emphatic 243- run win over Australia ahead of the Champion’s Trophy in the UK. “You aren’t doing too well in cricket,” Antony chuckled. The duo agreed to dramatically expand defence ties through military manoeuvres. And leave the rivalry to the cricket field.
