Mammoth cause
Mira Gulati is the first jewellery designer to lend her artistic talent to the annual elephant parade, an effort aimed at preserving the Asian elephant. Being held in Dana Point, California between September and November, her design of the ‘ Black Taj', a life- sized fibreglass baby elephant model, uses symbolism to liken the threat faced by elephants to the death of one of India's greatest architectural visionaries, Shah Jahan. This grassroots movement- turned- global crusade displays the models in hightraffic, high- pedestrian- locations and auctions them towards the end of the event, the proceeds of which are then donated to the Asian Elephant Foundation.
