INDIA TODAY has done well in giving its readers a very disturbing insight into the untold misery and hardship that the young soldiers guarding the LoC have to encounter on a daily basis (“In the Line of Fire”, October 14). Thanks to the many provocative incursions and infiltrations from Pakistan along the LoC in Kashmir, acclaimed as the paradise on earth, life has become hellish for these soldiers who have to stretch their endurance levels by staying away from their homes for months, risk their lives in inhospitable terrains and live in inhuman conditions. The Government must provide better facilities for them. But with the number of incursions increasing, there seems to be little respite for our soldiers. N. VIJAYARAGHAVAN., via email

VIRENDRA T., via email Our soldiers live a truly tough life in the LoC. Apart from a difficult terrain, inclement weather poses a huge challenge. Pakistani troops keep pushing terrorists into our territory and our armymen have to be prepared to counter terrorist attacks. They have a huge responsibility and work under most difficult situations. The best emolument and facilities should be provided to our men of defence.
