Beer hug

- By Sukant Deepak

India’s largest beer chain, The Beer Café, launched its Chandigarh outlet with the unique idea of a “Brews Cruise” this January. With ice-cold draught beer taps and beer tanks, you are instantly transported to the Bavarian Beer Houses. Guests were taken through a beer appreciation session to understand the different kinds of beers available. Those attending were apprised about the history of how the beverage was created. To kick-off the event, everybody was introduced to the process of ‘perfect pour’ for beers followed by an elaborate beer-tasting session. The first in line was the quirky and refreshing Hoegaarden draught beer, which boasts of a smooth taste of slight orange and coriander. An intelligent move, considering the draught goes easy on the palate. Next was the popular Erdinger Dunkel, a smooth and rich wheat beer. In order to impart an understanding of the difference between wheat and lager, the former was compared to Stella Artois, a lager beer. A round of fish fingers, chicken satay and nachos were served with the beer. Corona was next in line, which is reasonably light on the palate. The we sampled freshly poured from the tap Erdinger draught beer and it completely changed the taste in our mouth. Slightly sweet Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc concluded the beer-tasting round. The Beer Café offers a chance to rediscover the love of beer with its special PYOB (Pour Your Own Beer) cards, which one can recharge and top up. Rahul Singh, founder and CEO, says, “We happen to be the first in the country to bring over 50 varieties of beer from around the globe under one roof. The essence of this place is to provide an ambience suitable for friends and acquaintances to meet over a pint of beer and relax. Chandigarh is a promising market and we are sure that we would enjoy tremendous success here. Very soon, more varieties of beer would be introduced. Also, we will have an outlet in Amritsar shortly.” The Beer Café certainly makes sure we have pints to look forward to!
