ANew Love Story

- by Samar Halarnkar February 15, 1999

He had a great bod, soft, wavy hair, and the cutest dimples. Parul Nanda, 18, normally shrugged hers houlders at such production-line hunks.

First impression: “They pump some iron, comb their hair— maybe they’re nice, who cares?” she says with a shrug. As Parul fiddled with her pen, she slowly noticed the DKNY shugging his lit he frame. She watched with growing interest as he fished out a Motorola Star Tac. She caught references to “love and sea breezes”. As he lefts he couldn’t but help notice his Opel Astra.

Second impression: “He makes sense— he’s cool, mobile, cute— I wouldn’t mind being seen with him.” After a week Parul simply walked up to him after their French class, introduced her self and asked him out bowling. “Sure thing,” he said agreeably, “but not this weekend, I’ve already gota date.” That suits Parul just fine. “I can spend sometime with my old boyfriend this weekend,” she chuckles, crooking her fingers to hook quote marks in the air as she stresses “boyfriend”. Parul, a second-year psychology student in Delhi, is “inlove” with two men. And yes, she will go out with both. And yes, both will know they aren’t the only ones in her life— as she probably isn’t for them.
