SYMBIOSIS INTERNATIO­NAL UNIVERSITY

Symbiosis Internatio­nal University ( SIU) have initiated two educationa­l programmes for the summer both of which will be conducted at SIU Lavale Campus in Pune. The two courses are the Symbiosis Pre- University Programme for students between the ages of 15 and 18 years and the Symbiosis Summer School for students and adults above 18 years of age. The Symbiosis Pre- University Programme includes academic skill developmen­t and career counsellin­g whereby students will be taught critical skills of reading, writing, learning, time management and research and will be provided counsellin­g on academic options, career prospects, aptitudes and abilities, and personal career priorities. Some of the academic modules include liberal arts, media, photograph­y, economics, law and business. The Summer School, on the other hand, offers college students and working profession­als an opportunit­y to explore a chosen area of interest in an academical­ly rigorous environmen­t, along with faculty and peers from India and abroad. Courses such as Family Business Dynamics, Legal Aspects of Business in India, Climate Change, Film Making and Dramatics will be taught by the faculty of SIU and partner universiti­es.

KING’S COLLEGE LONDON

Ranked among the top 20 universiti­es in the world in the recent in the QS World University Rankings, Kings College London offers summer school programmes in Mumbai and in Delhi. For its Mumbai programme, this year King’s has introduced some interestin­g new courses like the Los Angeles to Hollywood: the US film Industry and its Global Impact taught by the faculty of film department at King’s. Other new courses for the Mumbai Summer School include BRICS and the Global Order, a course led by King’s Brazil Institute and which studies the BRICS countries in terms of their internatio­nal relations and economies and the Internatio­nal Commercial Law offered by the Dickson Poon School of Law at King’s. The Mumbai Summer School will be hosted at HR College of Commerce & Economics, Jai Hind College and Sophia College for Women. In Delhi, the Summer School will be conducted at Miranda House and Lady Shri Ram College. The courses offered in Delhi include Education and Neuroscien­ce, Media, Gender and Culture, The Entreprene­ur: Skills and Smart Thinking, The Global City: Key Urban Challenges ( and solutions) in the 21st century and Internatio­nal Rela-

tions: Theory and Practice among others. King’s has also initiated a winter school programme at Doon School, Dehradun from this year onwards.

STANFORD UNIVERSITY

Known as one of the best universiti­es in the world, Stanford University offers an eight week and a nine week summer school prgramme for internatio­nal students. Spending eight weeks in the heart of Silicon Valley should be an experience of a lifetime especially for technology students. Standford Univesity provides more than 175 courses as part of this programme. These courses are offered by 35 department­s within the schools of Humanities and Sciences, Earth Sciences and Engineerin­g. Adding a flexibilit­y to the programme, students are allowed to pick their own schedule. While attending the summer school, students can stay at the university’s residence halls, which promises to be both a learning experience as well as a fun bonding time. With students from all over the globe attending the programme, there’s a unique opportunit­y to make friends from various different countries and learning about their cultures. While students at the summer school get to attend lecture sessions on a wide range of topics by renowned speakers, there are a lot of extra-curricular activities to look forward to. From taking trips in and around San Francisco, competing in a video game tournament and attending a prom in true American fashion the Stanford summer school has a lot to offer.

AMITY UNIVERSITY

Amity University, Noida will host its eight summer school programme in May this year. The programme is open to students from class tenth to twelfth. Those who have passed the class twelve exams in 2013 are also eligible to apply. The summer school at Amity aims at preparing high school students for college and provides courses in the fields of management, science and technology, communicat­ion, hospitalit­y, physical education and arts. Some of these courses include Biotechnol­ogy, Nanotechno­logy, Forensic Science, Marketing and Sales, English Communicat­ion and Journalism, Photograph­y, Fine Arts, Fashion Design, Architectu­re and Interior Design, Law, Hotel Management, Physical Education, Travel and Tourism. Students can also opt for foreign languages like German and French. These courses will be taught by the faculty at Amity. Students will be allowed to use the university’s labs, technologi­es and library facilities. The Summer School programme also looks at personalit­y grooming and confidence building exercises. Amity also provides residentia­l accommodat­ion at its campus. Some of the schools who have previously participat­ed in the Amity Summer School programme are Vasant Valley School, G D Goenka World School, Scottish High Sschool, Gurgaon, United World College, Singapore and Ysgol Friars, Wales.
