PRITI DAS | STAND-UP COMIC

- by Kookie Desai

Though she’s one of the very few women stand-up comedians from Gujarat, Priti Das has a growing set of ardent fans. It has been two years since Das started performing as a stand-up artiste with Comedy Factory. “Back then, it was an all- male affair and I couldn’t understand why women couldn’t be equally funny and interesting when it comes to one liners. My first show at Vadodara, Fourplay, set the ball rolling for me,” she says. After her first show, Das was soon roped in for routine stand-up acts across the state. However, her male counterparts are most often found uneasy the moment Das opens her act. “My content is very edgy— current politics, vaginal advertisements, condoms and its uses, creams used for fairness, so on and so forth. Hence, I have a very thin fan following but they are faithful, or at least I believe they are. My show continues till my audience wants me on stage,” says the comedian.
