From sublime to ridiculous, here are some theories on how the Malaysian

1. Jihad Plot Media tycoon Rupert Murdoch to maverick politician Subramania­n Swamy have tweeted about the possible involvemen­t of Pakistan for a 9/11-style attack on an Indian city. “Hidden, perhaps in northern Pakistan, like Bin Laden,” posted Murdoch. Swamy claimed his worldwide ‘sources’ had tipped him off.

2. Witch Doctors The Malaysian government allowed three witch doctors, bomoh, to perform a ritual, with coconuts and other props, in a bid to locate the plane. The chief bomoh, Ibrahim Mat Zin, claimed that the plane was “still in the air”.

3. Govindaraj Swami Ayogi, apparently with eight siddhis or supernatur­al powers from Tiruvarur in Tamil Nadu, claimed hijacking by LTTE terrorists. The flight was now in a dense forest island near Sri Lanka, he said. All passengers were safe.

4. Ramachandr­a Guruji A“subconscio­us memory and soul healer” appeared on a Kannada channel show and hypnotised two participan­ts for 20 minutes to make them “imagine themselves on the plane”. Amidst high-decibel screaming, the two described a hijacking, crash and drowning.

5. Yuri Geller The spoon-bending paranormal­ist put in his two bits. He tweeted that he had been asked by Malaysian officials to locate the missing plane because of his expertise in “remote viewing”.
