Restaurant review

- ■ by Sukant Deepak

A spicy treat Promising a wide range of flavours for the palate, Spice Town 9 recently opened its doors to the food lovers of the tricity. Though it is a multicuisine restaurant, Indian dishes rule the roost here. The elegant ambience not only lends an air of relaxation but also adds to a rich fine-dining experience. We decided to settle for the very smooth Veg Manchow Soup served with Kasturi Kalmi Kabab and Fish Ajwain Tikka. The fish got our thumbs up for its delicate flavouring, while the soup stood apart with it silky texture. For vegetarian starters, we sampled the Malai Maki Seekh, which simply melted in the mouth. The Spice Town Special Mushroom was a pleasant surprise, with the perfectly done up mushrooms soaking in the rich flavour of the gravy well without losing their own texture—a culinary feat not easily achieved. In the main course, the Rara Mutton was well done, while the Keema Kaleji had a delicious explosion of black cardamoms.

We kept our vegetarian fare simple. The Kadhai Paneer was cooked to perfection with dollops of soft paneer. But the winner was the Malai Kofta with its super-rich flavours, smooth texture and thick, creamy gravy. If you are in the mood for something Oriental, go for the Shredded Chilly Chicken—crispy and delightful. Order it with the light and fresh fried rice that won our hearts. The Gulab Jamun ended our delicious meal on a sweet note and it surely didn’t disappoint. Meal for two Rs 1,000 At SCO 215-216-217, Sector 34 (A), Chandigarh Tel 01725015820
