Laughter Dose Rabindra Sarobar

-

Doing an activity that’s both physical and fun, such as jogging and yoga in a park, is a great way to lose weight and stay committed to your workout routine. Head to Rabindra Sarobar, also known as Dhakuria Lake, for a great workout outdoors. This 73-acre leafy haven boasts of well-maintained running tracks, open fields, pretty ponds and a children’s park. Serious fitness enthusiasts can be seen working out here from as early as five in the morning. The lake and the 2 km-long tracks around it are equipped with convenient amenities such as stone benches, where you can catch your breath or do a yoga session. You can also attend a session of the Laughing Club, which is a group of nearly 300 members, who meet every morning to exercise their lungs and bodies using laughter therapy. The club meets in three batches— at 6.10 am, 7.10 am at 8.10 am. “Laughter, as they say, is the best medicine. It’s not just about exercising the lungs, but the entire body. When you laugh while standing or bending down holding your knees, you are exercising your lungs, chest muscles, legs and face. Also, the feel good factor that comes with this exercise is what helps your body immensely,” says current club presi- dent Asit Kumar Guha, 65. The fee is a minimal Rs 100 for six months. To join, all you need to do is land up and get your name written in an exercise book that also serves as a register.
