Fix the Leak

- SANJAY BAHADUR Global CEO, Construction Chemical Division, Pidilite Industries

Damp walls and dripping ceilings are common complaints during the monsoons. So, it's important to watch out for signs that tell you if your home will spring a leak.

START FROM THE TOP

Inspect the terrace for cracks, separation gaps, growth of plants and weeds, damaged or loose tiles, debris blocking the outflow pipes. There are various products in the market that can be used to waterproof the roof.

EXTERNAL WALL CARE

Check the external walls to see if the paint is peeling or has become patchy. Cracks around pipe fittings and ACs, or separation gaps around the window frames should be tackled immediately. Paint with a good exterior raincoat.

INVEST IN PEST CONTROL

Look out for termite infestation that can cause cracks in the walls and concrete. After pest control have the area waterproofed to seal the cracks.

LEAKY PIPES

Water pipes, especially in the bath, can be a source of leakage. You need to check them, mainly the joint areas. Bath floor tile gaps should be fixed and grouted with quality roff tile mate epoxy.
