LETTER FROM THE EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

-

Fashion lumbers into your consciousness at least twice a year, the way the world views beauty and even if you are not particularly fashion forward. The transition from Spring/ Summer to Autumn/ Winter is a classic time to shed nostalgia and gear up for the winter months when partying is a religion and looking good the norm. In this issue, as we prepare for that fashionable transition, we invite scepticism into the mix as we debate what works and what doesn’t. There are the tried and tested fashion designers and then there is the new lot; made up of people who are distinctive, edgy, ambitious and international.

In the cover story, we profile five such designers who are being dubbed the new superstars of Indian fashion. What makes them so special? Is it the fabric they use? The innovations they have made their own? Their idea of what constitutes style? A mix of all these disparate ingredients one could say. From fashion poster boy Suket Dhir, to funk factory Rimzim Dadu, the eclectic Mrinalini Gupta, weaver-turned-designer Gaurav Jai Gupta and structure queen Payal Khandwala, they share their vision for a fashion idiom that is rooted in India but consumed globally.

What is fashion without a thumbs up or snub to trends? In this issue, fashion writer Sujata Assomull Sippy rewinds and forwards the spool to spotlight the hottest ramp updates this season. From textures and colours to looks and styles that are making their way into racks at the hottest designer stores across the world, she chronicles the key changes taking place.

We also speak to Jimmy Choo’s head, Sandra Choi, about the brand’s new labour of love as their mens range debuts in India. And British designer Paul Smith rejigs your wardrobe to give it gravitas as he tells you how to work separates, deal with colour blocking and give free reign to your design dreams.

In the market for a bespoke suit? Italian luxury brand Kiton’s creative head shares ten quick tips for getting that perfect suit on order. We also traverse the world of wearable technology and how that is quickly translating into high fashion that’s likely to elicit a collective sigh of vanity.

Whether you prescribe to fashion or shun it, this issue keeps you in the know and allows you to make conscious consumption choices that reflect the changing ways of the fashion world. Owning a style has never been easier.
