- By ALIFIYA KAPADIA

It's legacy goes back 140 years and it's wares offer a feast for heritage-starved eyes. Titled Khazir, the Oman-based luxury brand headed by Saddam Zaroo opened its first showroom at JW Mariott, Juhu in Mumbai in August, last year. Hailing from the picturesque land of Kashmir, Zaroo’s passion for his heritage lured him to the fashion capital of the country and the new boutique store proudly displays 'Made In India' authentic Persian and Kashmiri pieces.

THE ART OF CRAFT

The Persian-inspired Indian artisanal craftsmanship on pashmina shawls, cashmere stoles, papier mache art, walnut wood artefacts, luscious Persian carpets and opulent antiques like

khanjar, tea sets, lamps are carefully handpicked. Every design tells a story, every fabric is uplifted by the weave and every artisan’s skill beautifully

showcased. Apart from the traditional Kashmiri art, kalamkari, crystal embellishments, jamawar and zari work can be found here where each piece is unique and crafted in India. While papier mache artefacts are available in a range of `3,000 to `8,000; the Pashmina shawls, carpets, jewellery and other artefacts would cost anything between a few thousands to lakhs.

A LAYOUT THAT COMPLEMENTS THE PRODUCTS

The interiors of the store too reflect the rich heritage of Kashmir while showcasing a sophisticated European style of design. A glass façade offers a view of the store from the outside and highlights its warm, alluring interiors. A reception desk is placed to the left of the entrance while on the right one can set eyes on a grand display of shawls, carpets and jewellery. Gold, cream and natural wood are the dominant hues in the store. Not only do they lend a warm luxurious feel to the space but also help offset and highlight the majestic artefacts. The glass shelves display exclusive Persian Kashmiri artefacts in all their glory, while island counters showcase the beauty of shawls and other exquisite home décor artefacts. A luxurious lounge has been created for its patrons as well. A beautiful amalgamation of traditional craftsmanship and European minimalism, Khazir truly offers its patrons a unique experience.
