FUTURE TECH

From LED powered heating to a virtual stylist, Panasonic flirts with the future through its Wonder Life-BOX, a Japanese concept that will soon become a reality

Panasonic's smart home in the year 2030 uses technology to enhance your lifestyle

Efficiency like minimalism is not just important in Japan, it is a way of life. In fact, their seat warming, self-cleaning WCs or fancy automatic doors can put sci-fi movies to shame. Forget jarring and blinding hues, instead get ready to be welcomed by earthy tones that dominate the colour map of the country. Functionality trumps superficial interiors across Japan. Now, Panasonic is attempting to change the rules with a smart home of 2030.

YOUR WISH IS MY COMMAND

With Panasonic your home can become a companion that enhances your lifestyle. They call it Akari or ‘light’ in Japanese, an artificial intelligence software that follows you around the home as a personal assistant, reminding of upcoming meetings, regulating electronic appliances, connecting to the web, warning during disasters and safeguarding the home from strangers, through simple voice commands. Ask Atari the dinner menu, she will tell you the ingredients kept in the refrigerator and give you a range of the best recipes from the web.

AN ECO-FRIENDLY OUTLOOK

Panasonic’s smart home steps away from conventional energy sources, instead opts for solar panels and hydrogen extracted from the panel. This helps facilitate energy sharing. The house is

therefore run on clean and green energy, stored in energy boxes. Also, since there is enough moisture content in the air, the homeowner will never run out of hydrogen or electricity.

GIVING IT A SNAPCHAT TOUCH

Social media filters have been beautifying our photos and selfies for some time. Now Panasonic is using this technology inside the home too. In fact, here the mirror not only tells you to cheer up if it feels your morning smile doesn’t meet the satisfactory standards of happiness; with face detecting sensors, it also offers an assortment of filters. So if you want to change your hairstyle, sample it first on the mirror before heading to the barber. Need a dash of glam for a rock concert? The mirror can suggest Goth-inspired make-up with dramatic eyes.

SING AWAY BACTERIA BLUES

With an in-built Home Environment Management (HEM) system you can say goodbye to costly air purifiers. This not only manages internal temperature but also provides an indoor air quality report, covering all rooms and bacteria levels across them. The home also comes equipped with virus sensing. The sensors detect virus build up right at the entrance and use appropriate material to prevent infections from spreading. How’s that for smart living?
