THREE YEARS AFTER PM Modi vowed to re­ju­ve­nate the Ganga, there is lit­tle to show on the ground. But Uma Bharti isn’t wor­ried. “I’m more con­cerned about do­ing it prop­erly,” she says. She has, how­ever, got the Na­tional Mis­sion for Clean Ganga (NMCG) na­tional au­thor­ity sta­tus. Ninety-nine stalled ir­ri­ga­tion projects have been kick­started and are set for com­ple­tion by 2019. Plans have been drawn up for aquifer map­ping of eight states; Rs 6,000 crore set aside for ground­wa­ter de­vel­op­ment. The ILR (in­ter-link­ing of rivers) projects, how­ever, are yet to take off, with the Ken-Betwa way be­hind start date.
