Uma Bharti

MINISTER FOR WATER RESOURCES, RIVER DEVELOPMENT

- —Kaushik Deka

THREE YEARS AFTER PM Modi vowed to rejuvenate the Ganga, there is little to show on the ground. But Uma Bharti isn’t worried. “I’m more concerned about doing it properly,” she says. She has, however, got the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) national authority status. Ninety-nine stalled irrigation projects have been kickstarted and are set for completion by 2019. Plans have been drawn up for aquifer mapping of eight states; Rs 6,000 crore set aside for groundwater development. The ILR (inter-linking of rivers) projects, however, are yet to take off, with the Ken-Betwa way behind start date.
