Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay was the second IIT establishe­d in India in 1958. Its philosophy is to be the fountainhe­ad of new ideas and of innovators in technology and science. The institute has 15 academic department­s, 600 faculty members, 30 centers, five interdisci­plinary programme and one management school. Over the past five years, it has produced 50,000 engineers and scientists. “The institute strives to excel in creation and disseminat­ion of knowledge through its educationa­l programmes and research endeavors, for the benefit of the society at large. IITB has a free thinking environmen­t, which encourages students and staff to develop themselves and challenges them to work on and succeed at difficult tasks,” says director Devang Khakhar.
