Sathyabama Univer­sity (for­merly known as Sathyabama En­gi­neer­ing Col­lege and af­fil­i­ated to Univer­sity of Madras), was es­tab­lished in 1987 by Founder Chan­cel­lor Col. Jep­pi­aar, to pro­mote tech­ni­cal ed­u­ca­tion in the state of Tamil Nadu. The in­sti­tu­tion was granted deemed univer­sity sta­tus by the Min­istry of Hu­man Re­sources De­vel­op­ment un­der Sec­tion (3) of the UGC Act 1956 in 2001and is man­aged by Sathyabama Ed­u­ca­tional Trust. In 2012, the Min­istry of Hu­man Re­sources De­vel­op­ment de­clared the Univer­sity as a Cat­e­gory ‘A’ univer­sity.
