From funky knobs to luxe fur­ni­ture, con­crete has bro­ken out its bor­ing mould and is mak­ing heads turn

For­get its for­mer unas­sum­ing ap­pear­ance. This is the year of ce­ment. Though its rough tex­ture and fin­ish made it dif­fi­cult to ac­cept, over the years its raw and mould­able na­ture has found a big mar­ket. In fact, in the next cou­ple of months we are go­ing to see a rise in ce­ment-made prod­ucts. Al­ready ar­chi­tects have been us­ing hand­made ce­ment tiles for res­i­den­tial and re­tail spa­ces. So, while con­crete has al­ways had pow­er­ful friends in the ar­chi­tec­tural com­mu­nity (think Le Cor­bus­ier) now home­own­ers are warm­ing up to its lim­it­less pos­si­bil­i­ties.
