Mon­soon flood­ing in Gu­jarat has re­sulted in the death of 218 (at last count); up to 130,000 have been moved to safer ground. As many as 61 have died in Banaskan­tha district alone, where this photo was taken dur­ing res­cue oper­a­tions. Ac­cord­ing to me­te­o­rol­o­gists, the rain­fall in Gu­jarat has been among the worst in 112 years. Some 700 peo­ple and thou­sands of an­i­mals have died across the coun­try dur­ing this mon­soon sea­son. Havoc has been wreaked on in­fra­struc­ture too, with roads sub­merged and elec­tric­ity net­works dam­aged.
