YOUR TIME TO SHINE

Invest in what looks good on you, and not what trends dictate

- Sanjay Garg Textile designer and Founder, Raw Mango, Delhi

Planning a wedding can be a bittersweet journey, ranging from torturous to inspired moments of joy. Sure, there are some things that make you want to pull your hair out and which can mess with or cause a delay in plans. One of the most important aspects of a wedding is the outfits. I think it’s important to not get carried away by trends. Instead, explore your culture, tradition, and heritage, and think about the uniqueness each textile and fabric can bring, and of course, dress for your body type. Incorporate local produce in curating

the wedding. So, if your wedding is taking place in Kashmir then you could source Nargis flower instead of importing Hydrangeas from France. This not only supports local businesses and promotes socio- economic growth, but also helps in sustaining our carbon footprint.

Tradition and ritual is obviously a very important part of planning the wedding. It is bit frustrating when you are forced to stick to certain norms such as if one wants to host a small dinner party instead of a buffet style meal, it is impossible to carry that out. Colour too has a lot to do with tradition, culture, and heritage. Sticking to traditional colours is somewhat restricting but I feel it is too personal to say what colours one should wear or choose.

The taboo attached to the idea that one needs to wear heavyweight outfits and weigh yourself down with jewellery is something I cannot comprehend; our engineered panel Benarasi lehengas are an alternative choice. The beauty of your wedding outfit is in the curation of the look, and not about the weight or cost. You would want to wear the jewellery and outfits more than once and use them than just admire.
