Getting Skin Deep
Skin irritation leads to ageing and dark spots. Eight hacks for a healthy complexion.
How to say no to dark spots and skin eruptions
Our skin and pores are attacked by about 1.2 million pollution particles every day causing dark spots and irritation. Prolonged exposure can damage the skin’s integrity and trigger problems such as acne, dryness and premature ageing. It’s therefore essential to move beyond traditional methods and adopt solutions that can counter these factors and strengthen our skin.
Check your shower temperature
A lot of women like to shower for a long time but extended baths in too hot or too cold water strips the skin of its natural oils and makes it dry.
Moisturise after the shower
A bath tends to dry the skin, which then needs a layer of moisturiser to revive it. Opt for soothing ingredients such as allantoin and vitamin B3.
Clean your face
Use a mild gel-based soothing face wash instead of a harsh exfoliator to remove dead skin cells that helps opens the pores and make moisturising effective. Face wash with activated charcoal removes pollution and accelerate skin renewal. While a face wash with niacinamide is anti-ageing, antipollution, anti-pigmentation and increases the natural hydration of your skin.
Eat and drink right
Drink lots of water for a healthy skin. A good diet is also crucial; foods rich in omega oils boost your skin’s hydrating functions. Ensure there are right kind of oils in your diet, especially coconut oil and ghee that are good for the general health, skin and hair.
Do not forget your body
Pay special attention to the neck and hands, they tend to dry out more during winter and show signs of ageing. Instead of a deodorant or perfume opt for alcohol-free solutions and mists that are aqua based.
Take care of dandruff
Dandruff causes a lot of skin issues such as acne on the face, back and shoulders. Use a good anti-dandruff shampoo.
Bank on natural remedies
Coconut milk cream and coconut oil, curd or any fruit pulp work wonders for dry and irritable skin.
Take external factors into account
It’s important to change your bed sheets at least once a week. Every night, our skin sheds dead cells and that turns into dust and causes skin problems. Our own organic skin dust irritates the skin further. Try to sleep on your back and not the face as pressure from your pillow can cause lines. Clean your phone screens daily, even that comes into contact with the face and can easily transfer germs.
